Interested in joining CAP?

You can join CAP either as a cadet (youths ages 12-20) or as a senior member (adults ages 18 and up).

Cadets (Youth Membership)

Interested in developing your leadership skills, learning how to fly, building a model rocket, traveling overseas as a "youth ambassador," exploring a career in aviation/aerospace or the military, or even participating in emergency services training ... all the while having fun and making new friends? If you answered "yes" to any of the above, then seriously consider becoming a Civil Air Patrol cadet and joining the Squadron 86 family.

Requirements
  • At least 12 years old and not yet 19 years old.
  • Enrolled or graduated from a private, public, home school or college program with a satisfactory record of achievement.
  • Not a member of the active duty U.S. Armed Forces.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien to the U.S. (Other non-citizens who are legally admitted to the U.S. must request a waiver of the citizenship requirement through the unit they are joining.)
  • Be of good moral character.
Senior Members (Adult Membership)

We are always looking for knowledgeable and dedicated adult members to serve as mentors and teachers to our cadets, and to assist with administrative duties in the squadron (and beyond!). Whatever your interests and professional background — teaching, counseling, law, military, medicine, aviation, finance, business, science, or engineering — there's a place for you in CAP as an officer or NCO!

Options to join as a Cadet Sponsor Member, Patron Member, or Aerospace Education Member are also available for those who are interested in taking part in CAP but are unable to devote the time necessary for service as a Senior Member.

Requirements
  • At least 18 years old or be a member of the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty at any age. No maximum age limit to join or remain as an adult member.

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien to the U.S. (Other non-citizens who are legally admitted to the country must request a waiver of the citizenship requirement through the unit they are joining.)

  • Possess the desire, willingness, and capability to promote the objectives and purposes of CAP.

  • Be of good moral character (must submit fingerprints with application for an FBI criminal background check; no waivers for this requirement).
